Photoshop workspace

Anybody can do anything on Photoshop these days.   You can create masterfully laid out posters, banners and other marketing materials. You can design an interactive and graphic website. You can easily edit a picture, even apply makeup, to make someone look younger or older. Whatever your reason may be, Adobe Photoshop has become a relevant ‘tool’ today. In fact, it is the current market leader for commercial bitmap and image manipulation software. Both graphics professionals and enthusiasts can maximize it.

To help you start using this tool, we will be offering the Photoshop Absolute Essentials Workshop. This workshop is specifically for beginners who want to know how to go about using Photoshop. The workshop is offered on the following dates:

• March 14
• March 21
• March 28

To make the class more in-depth and interactive, each class will only have a maximum of 6 slots. We will have a one-computer-one-student setup.

The class will be from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.

The outline of this intensive half-day (am) workshop would include:

• Navigating the Workspace
• Working with Documents
• Layers and Blend Modes
• Adding and Working with Type
• Painting Tools
• Retouching Tools

Other more advanced topics will be covered in a different class (to be offered soon).

We will be working mostly with CS2 on a PC setup. Users of older or newer Photoshop versions can easily follow the navigation, as users may encounter only minor differences in the locations of some commands. Once you know how to use CS2, you would find it very, very easy to use the older or newer versions, whether it is on the Mac or PC.

Mark B. Arciaga, owner of Sake Bar and Restaurant, National Highway, Muntilupa City (near Muntinlupa City Hall), covered an impromptu ‘pre-nup‘ for his sister and her fiance.

They used the 15th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2010, at Clark, Pampanga as the backdrop of the pre-nup.  With his “team” of family and friends in tow, they left Manila at 3am to catch the Hot Air Balloon Flight at 530am.

Using a Nikon D40 and a Canon 300D, he deftly covered the angles of the impromptu session like a seasoned pro.

We’ll hold another round of workshop this March.

To focus on each students’ strengths, we will hold a separate class for Beginners/Intermediate, and another for Intermediate/Advanced.

We went to Iloilo and watched the Dinagyang festival. The highlight of this visayan festival is the street dancing/dance competition. (On a personal note, we think that Dinagyang is arguably better than Sinulog and Ati-atihan.)

We were fortunate enough to be given tickets to watch all the colorful and fantastic presentations of each ‘tribe’ at a specially constructed stage. Our seats were located at the center portion of the left-most side of the stage.

From our vantage point, we had a good view of the presentation area, and we were just beside the designated area for each tribe’s drum corp.

We also had a good view of Villar, Bongbong Marcos, Mar Roxas, Gordon, Revilla, Legarda, and a host of other politicians who

We have the natural instinct to move closer to the subject.  But there will be times we can’t get near the action. There may be a barrier, a fence or wall.

At times, this is not a big problem. Your dslr camera may be equipped with telephoto/zoom lenses. Your digicam may have a get lens package + the built in digital zoom feature.

But what if you just have the basic dslr kit lens or you’ve maxed out your digicam’s zoom?

Since you can’t move about, wait for your subject. Try to predict what he/she would do.

Focus on a particular subject. But since you can’t zoom in, take a picture of the general area.

3. Have a steady hand, or use a tripod if possible

Here’s to hoping you haven’t had too much coffee to prevent your hand from shaking too much.
Hope that the light source (sun) would be bright enough.

Any slight movement will affect the clarity of the pictures. Remember that you will need to crop what you have taken.

4. If all else fails…

Just click away!
Make sure that you have a decent-sized memory card in your camera.
Let’s hope that you get at least one good shot out of the hundreds you have taken.
